Das Kleine Schwarze‹‹ / ››Overview

In 2016, I was commissioned to create a new work for the Hamburg Design Hotel “Das Kleine Schwarze."

The resulting project consists of three separate series. In each one a small black object sets events in motion.

In “The Suitcase” a young boy discovers an abandoned suitcase in the forest. The same suitcase becomes the portal through which a business man disappears. Upon closer examination of the first photograph, the seemingly linear time-line of this story is called into question.

Are decisions black and white? Can you undo what has been done? In “Still-life with Flowers and Fruit’ an unseen protagonist ignores a warning, and the events that follow are unstoppable.

The changeability of gender is central in “The Little Black Dress.” The series plays with the tension between a man and a women, although it’s not clear who wins in the end.
